The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is a nonprofit botanical garden with a unique mixture of manicured gardens and wild habitats located two miles south of the town of Fort Bragg in Mendocino County, California. The Gardens is a nonprofit 501(c)3 and relies on the public for financial support. The operations and programs of the Gardens are accomplished through the teamwork of staff and volunteers.
Each year, more than 100,000 people experience the wonder of nature in all its seasons at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. Store Sales & Guest Services Representative
Reports to: Guest Services Manager/Guest Services Assistant Manager
Position: Part-time; seasonal; $19/hour
Hours: The position is part-time seasonal (up to 29 hours/week) non-exempt, hourly. Open availability, weekends required and the schedule may change to meet the needs of the organization, i.e.; may be required to work special events and/or evenings on occasion.

Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens (MCBG) is seeking a part-time seasonal Store Sales & Guest Services Representative who will assist in ensuring the success of our admissions and unique retail gift shop, The Garden Store. The ideal candidate must have at least one year of retail and guest services experience. The Store Sales and Guest Services Representative will be responsible for greeting guests, admissions, store sales, nursery sales, assisting guests with mobility scooters, and creating a welcoming and informative environment for guests, members, and volunteers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide the highest quality service to all guests in every transaction

Greet members/guests in a sincere and friendly manner

Accurately process admissions transactions in ACME and merchandise sales in Vend
-
Provide orientation to the Gardens and answer questions regarding the Gardens

Maintain flexibility and perform a variety of duties as assigned

Attendance and punctuality are essential to work and all work-related functions

Maintain a neat and orderly work environment

Answer and direct phone calls

Assist guests shopping at Nursery whenever possible or contact Nursery personnel as needed

Assist with inventory, pricing, merchandising, shipping/receiving as needed

Be familiar with the Gardens and upcoming activities, including events, workshops, etc.

Maintain a flexible schedule and availability to work special events and times of peak visitation

Work collaboratively with co-workers, horticultural, maintenance, nursery, and administrative staff
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent GED Core Competencies
-
1-3 years of direct retail experience using a point-of-sale cash register a plus
-
Effective teamwork skills and cross-functional collaborative capacity. Ability to take direction and work well independently as the situation requires

Team player, ability and desire to work in a collaborative environment

Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs

Basic computer literacy

Bilingual is a plus (English/Spanish)

Custodian
Reports to: Guest Services Manager
Position: Part-time; seasonal; non-exempt; salary range $21-23/hr
Hours: Weekends required (Fri – Sun), may be required to work special events and/or evenings on occasion.

Under the supervision of the Guest Services Manager, the part-time seasonal Custodian position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and basic functionality of the buildings, facilities, and grounds in clean and orderly condition. The position will also help set up public/service areas and equipment for guests, employees, and volunteers. The position has a set schedule (15+ hrs/week Friday, Saturday, and Sunday required) aside from our two major annual events and a handful of evening events. This is a vital position that will ensure a clean and welcoming appearance of the Gardens, providing our guests with the best possible experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Custodial
-
Ensures positive presentation of all physical facilities providing the best possible experience for guests
-
Monitors and performs timely clean-up including emptying trash cans, cleaning and stocking restroom facilities, picking up trash, cleaning spills, and other janitorial tasks as needed
-
Stock, and replenish paper supplies and cleaning products as necessary
-
Proactively maintains cleanliness of exterior hardscapes, including sweeping of sidewalks, raking paths, and trash pick-up if necessary
-
Cleans public and office areas, including emptying trash, dusting, vacuuming, windows, etc. to ensure consistently clean and safe presentations
-
Regularly empties interior and exterior trash cans within gardens and public areas
-
Operate mechanical power blower to ensure all exterior hardscape is clean and free of debris
-
Regularly clean and make sure scooters and golf cart are ready for daily use
Maintenance and Facilities
-
Ensures tripping or other safety hazards are immediately reported to supervisor
-
Works closely with Administrative and Event staff for public and private events
-
Checks grounds for late guests, lock buildings, set alarms, and lock gates upon departure
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of custodial, building, and light maintenance
-
Experience operating basic manual and power tools
-
Ability to work in a safety-conscious manner
-
Possess a valid California driver’s license and car insurance
-
Minimum of 6 months of janitorial and light maintenance experience is preferred
-
Proven experience working as part of a team is required
-
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
-
Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans when necessary, throughout the day

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays
-
Must be a positive representative of MCBG both internally and externally at all times

Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
This position will require standing and/or walking and climbing ladders throughout the property for extended periods of time on any workday. Cleaning will require some heavy lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, stooping, and crouching. Must be able, and willing to work outdoors year-round and in various weather conditions. This position requires the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
