The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is inviting local artists to help bring new life to its seed packets through a Seed Art Throwdown.

Did you know, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens sells seeds collected by volunteers from our Garden? In the past five years we have sold over 8,500 seed packets for a total of $31,314. All PROSEEDS (yep, you heard me!) directly benefit our non-profit Botanical Garden. 

This year we would love to partner with artists in our community to update our seed packets, so we’re hosting a Seed Art Throwdown! Selected artists will be notified, and artworks will be credited on the seed packets for sale in the MCBG store. Artists will also receive five packets of their seeds. 

Like seeds, artists bring beauty, meaning, and joy. We look forward to seeing your submissions. Have fun and be creative! 

Eligible Artwork: Original paintings or Drawings – in any media – of the following plant species. Artists may submit one or up to twelve entries (one for each plant):

• Blue Honeywort

• Trailing Nasturtium (mixed colors)

• Borage

• Columbine (mixed colors)

• Meadow Foam

• Large Leafed Lupine (mixed colors)

• Nemophila Penny Black

• California Poppy (mixed colors)

• Breadseed Poppy (mixed colors)

• Money Plant/Honesty

• Farewell to Spring/Godetia

• Baby Blue Eyes

Files Accepted: png, svg, esp, ai, pdf, jpg. 300 dpi. CMYK. 1:1.4 ratio is preferred. Minimum Size 3.25” wide x 4.25” tall. Bigger is better!
