Board of Directors
Jean Mann
Board Member

Jean Mann has served on the Board of Directors of the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens since December 2019. After a 40-year career as a Speech and Language Specialist and Special Education Director in Southern California and Anderson Valley, she retired and continued her lifelong commitment to education and community service through her work with the Gardens.
Since moving to the Coast in 1991, Jean has admired and enjoyed the Gardens and has been a member for many years. She currently serves on the Education Committee, where she shares ideas and perspectives to enhance nature-based learning opportunities for children of all ages, assists with workshops, and helps define program goals. Through her participation on the Human Resources Committee, she values collaboration and meaningful dialogue in support of the Gardens’ dedicated staff. As Chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee, she encourages others to become involved and recognize the opportunity to advance the Gardens’ worthwhile mission.
Jean’s volunteer work in the Display House and Propagation House—primarily weeding and cleaning—has deepened her appreciation for the essential behind-the-scenes efforts that keep the Gardens thriving. At home, gardening remains a labor of love, especially with two energetic Corgis enthusiastically “helping” by digging and rearranging plantings.
She recently celebrated 15 years as a Meals on Wheels driver, believing that delivering a warm smile each week is just as important as delivering a meal. Her volunteer service with the Eileen Hawthorne Fund for Animals further reflects her dedication to community care by supporting spay and neuter programs.
While she does not name a single favorite plant, Jean treasures a specially dedicated bench in the North Forest where she enjoys quiet reflection. She believes that, especially in challenging times, the Gardens remain a refuge and a place of beauty for all to enjoy.
