Bloom Blast! August 4, 2010
The Dahlia Garden is now in bloom!
Dahlias were one of the first flowers that Gardens’ founder Ernie Schoefer planted. At one time they were located in what is now the Perennial Garden, but in early 1980’s they were removed during the construction of the Perennial Garden beds. In the early 1990’s, Mr. Schoefer returned a truckload of dahlias he had saved from the original renovation and they were consolidated at the Dahlia Garden, located on the South Trail west of the Vegetable Garden. Over time the collection has expanded to over 200 different cultivars, with over 450 individual plants. The Dahlia Garden is a beautiful site for summer and early fall weddings and other special events.
