2009 "Paint-Out at the Gardens" Contest
The Arts Council of Mendocino County and the Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden hosted a "Paint-Out at the Gardens" Plein Air Painting Contest on October 10th. Artists from Mendocino County and beyond participated in the five-hour contest, painting the many vistas in the garden for the chance to win a total of $350 in cash prizes. Robert Rhoades, art professor at College of the Redwoods, was the judge. Fort Bragg artist Erin Dertner took first place with her painting "Shrouded Pathway." Manchester artist Ron Sackman took second place with his painting "Foggy Day on the Path." Ukiah artist Bonnie Veblen took third place with her painting "The Pathway to Unknown."
