Mendocino Coast Koi and Water Garden Society
We are a small group of dedicated pond enthusiasts located on the beautiful Mendocino coast of Northern California.
The Mendocino Coast Koi and Watergarden Society was conceived on a foggy Thursday night during dinner at the old Redwood Cookhouse in Fort Bragg, CA. Friends were talking about the home fishponds they had enjoyed in the past and their hopes for new pond construction on their properties. They all remarked on how helpful it would have been to have someone else's pond building experiences to learn from before they constructed their first ponds.
After consulting with other new friends who had experience building ponds and maintaining fancy goldfish and koi, it was proposed to start up a new local club dedicated to the hobby of garden ponds and ornamental fish.
The club was consolidated as a non-profit organization in 1994 with the goal of bringing together people who had an interest in building and maintaining garden ponds, water plants and/or ornamental fish.
Over the years, the group has remained small but lively, with meetings at members' homes, public educational speakers, and a summer tour of local ponds. Members share their personal experiences, mistakes and successes in pond construction and maintenance, fish stories, and excess plants.
